Barrel firing is a bit of a combo of pit and raku in that it is an “alternative firing” method where you are firing to get carbon, natural markings, and using alternative fuels – but no glazing.  The black markings are created from the combustable matierals which turn into smoke.   The smoke captured into the pours of the clay which gives this piece its unique look.    
 
IMPORTANT!  Keep in mind these are decorative pieces and canot be used for food or contain water since they are still porous.
