Approximate Dimensions: 10.5cm x 12cm
This piece was made using the Westernized Japanese technique known as Raku. Raku ware is traditionallly characterised by being fairly porous, which is the result of low firing. After removing the vessel from the kiln, it is placed into an open air container filled with combustible material, which is not a traditional Raku practice in Japan. The combustable material results in smoke, which stains the unglazed portions of the pottery black. The amount of oxygen that is allowed during the firing and cooling process affects the resulting color of the glaze and the anount of crackel.
IMPORTANT! Keep in mind these are decorative pieces and canot be used for food or contain water since they are still porous.
