Spalted Beech Dish
(unique piece, only one made)
20 cm diameter x 5cm tall x 3.5cm deep
I salvaged this piece of wood from the branch section of a beech tree on a nearby neighbor's property here in Belgium. The tree had fallen and had been lying on the ground for about four years, which led to some beautiful spalting. I waited about a year before working with the wood to let it dry out. Once relatively dry I roughly turned sevreal bowls from the wood and waited another several months before the final turning. I can't help but think about the amount of time it took for this piece to arrive into its current state. From seed to bowl!
